Abstract

This article examines the role of Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) in climate finance, focusing on the World Bank and the New Development Bank (NDB). It investigates the gaps these institutions can address to better align climate resources with the needs of developing countries. Grounded in the development of new institutional practices in response to climate change, the study adopts a methodology based on literature review and secondary data analysis. Sources include the Joint Report on Multilateral Development Banks’ Climate Finance and institutional documents from both banks. The theoretical framework is Institutional Political Economy, which provides tools to understand institutional creation and transformation. The aim is to contribute to the academic debate on how MDBs can promote more equitable and effective approaches to global climate finance.
