El armamentismo de los países dependientes : el caso latinoamericano

Abstract

The latest wave of civilian regimes overthrow in Latin America corresponds to a phase of strengthening of the armed forces, promoted by the United States and linked to an arms policy with new characteristics due, on the one hand, to the increasing complexity of the international context and, on the other, of the appearance of new forms of struggle (guerrillas, urban armed struggle). In this work we try to specify some general characteristics of the arms race in underdeveloped countries, of the United States' policy towards Latin American arms race, of how the Latin American case is inserted in the evolution of the world situation and what precise significance the set of recent decisions of the main countries of the region that may have.

Alain Joxe, Profesor investigador del Instituto de Estudios Internacionales, Universidad de Chile

De la Escuela Práctica de Altos Estudios (Sorbonne), es actualmente profesor-investigador del Instituto de Estudios Internacionales de la Universidad de Chile. Fue investigador del Centre d'Etude de Politique Etrangère, de París. Entre sus publicaciones están El conflicto Chino-Soviético en América Latina, Arca, Montevideo, 1967 y El papel de las Fuerzas Armadas en el sistema político de Chile, Editorial Universitaria, Santiago, 1970.

Cecilia Cadena

Socióloga colombiana, graduada en París (Sorbonne), en sicología y sociología. Fue investigadora de la Escuela Práctica de Altos Estudios; jefe de trabajos en el Laboratorio de Sociología Industrial (1965-1968); profesora de la Universidad Técnica del Estado, Santiago de Chile (1969-70).
