Abstract

In the present Latin American economic and social situation, there are two great concerns. The first is to satisfy the essential needs of the great mass excluded from the fruits of the development of the last decades. The second is to find a different and more favorable mode of insertion into the international economy. Regarding the first point, we maintain that Latin America is in a position to tackle tasks that in the past might seem too ambitious but that today have become objectively possible. Regarding the second, we want to emphasize the greater capacity of the region to resist and adapt to the consequences of the international turbulence of recent years, which still persists. This means imagining the kind of new international economic order that interests Latin America and the way in which the region should settle in that context.
