Overnight, food has become a serious global problem. Why this sudden deterioration? Is it solely due to bad weather conditions or is it just the beginning of a basic long-term crisis? And, even more important, what is the outlook for the next few years? Is there a possible solution? To answer these questions, last year the United Nations convened a special conference on food that took place in Rome. This paper evaluates the results of the Conference and discuss the long-term implications of the food crisis for developing countries.
