La tradición centralista en América Latina

Abstract

The hypothesis of this work is based on the description and analysis of the main factors that distinguish the social, economic and political character of Latin American societies from that of countries with a northwestern European tradition. Four of these factors are inversely related to what we call the "centralist" character of the social and political order of the Latin American countries: the first is the absence of feudal experience in the Latin American tradition; the second is the absence of a religious nonconformity and the latitudinarian centralism caused by the dominant religion; the third is the absence of any event that can be considered as a counterpart to the European industrial revolution; the fourth is the absence of events associated with the French Revolution, which transformed the character of Western European society.
