Abstract

From a Latin American perspective, a systematic and persistent effort is required to understand the dominant trends in the world economy, which have such an influence on the evolution of the countries of the area and their reciprocal relations. This paper attempts to observe these trends from the perspective of a Latin American analyst. The work is divided in three parts. The first recalls how post-war international economic events affected Latin America. In the second, the most significant current events in terms of their long-term repercussions on the world system are identified. Finally, some conclusions are drawn about the impact of these events on Latin American countries.
