Abstract

In recent years, the proposition that Latin America has come to play the role of a middle class in contemporary international society has become common. The problem of the political role of a middle class in a national society is complex in itself, giving rise to a series of alternative options at different historical junctures. This international middle class process has been clearly reflected in the historical and present alternatives of the inter-American system, in light of the relations between the United States as an elite and Latin America as a middle class in the process of consolidation. As a result, the inter-American system itself has lost so much importance to both parties.
