Abstract

Text of the address made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Ambassador Ramiro Saraiva Guerreiro, at the International Meeting on Cooperation and Development held in Cancun, Mexico, in October 1981. It highlights the importance of emphasizing the Northern Dialogue -South and its link with the international economy, identifying what developed and developing countries can do for their own benefit, in order to facilitate and accelerate a process of convergence of interests, essentially compatible, within a broader perspective. In addition, it maintains the need for the discussion to cover the current international economic situation and for the recovery effort of the Northern economies to recognize the need for progress on the problems that have prevented the international community from enjoying the full potential of the immense productive potential of the countries of the South.
