There is much to learn if, with regard to the attitude assumed by the United States in the South Atlantic conflict, the profound nature of the relations between that country and those of Latin America is analyzed. The time has certainly come to take a more mature and reasonable position. Beyond the value judgments that the current facts and circumstances may merit, it is very appropriate to explicitly take into account what has not changed or, presumably, will change in the coming years, along with what is actually being modified. With that end in mind, this paper briefly reviews the history of these relationships, with particular emphasis on the last decades.
