Abstract

To answer the question of whether there are generalizable models that support the integration processes, in this work the main features that these processes present in reality are defined and a classification of them is made. The Theory of Customs Union is specifically analyzed to examine its applicability and it is concluded that this model is not generalizable, especially for Latin American countries. Then a second question is posed regarding whether such integration models have economic prerequisites and implications for the design of public policies and, in this sense, it is established that these prerequisites do not exist when it comes to developing countries. Finally, the direction that public policies should follow to take advantage of integration for the development of society is indicated.
