Abstract

Latin America has witnessed the creation of a mechanism for political and diplomatic coalition known as the Permanent Mechanism for Consultation and Concerted Political Action of the Group of Eight. The Acapulco Summit allowed the Group of Eight to formalize itself, to a certain extent, as the regional interlocutor that prevents solutions for Latin America from exclusively coming from partial and exclusive hegemonic dictates. The group has been characterized by promoting initiatives to deal with the Central American crisis, external debt, obstacles to integration, food crises, and poverty in Latin America, among other issues. In this work, we analyze it creation, performance and some of the perspectives and challenges that it will face in the immediate future.
