Today it has become essential to reciprocally associate free trade with environmental protection measures that respect economic freedom. Adequate environmental regulations can become a new competitive advantage; Hence, the purpose of this work is to determine the policies that developing exporting economies should implement in this regard. If unilateral restrictive measures are not convenient and it is not possible to standardize environmental standards, then the trend should be to harmonize interests that emphasize negotiation where international trade is understood as an incentive for environmental protection. In this way, what has been called "sustainable competitiveness" is the new challenge facing International Environmental Law.
