Abstract

From the United Nations Resolutions that give rise to the Decolonization Process, more than one hundred and sixty territories have achieved autonomy or full independence. The end of this process, agreed by the General Assembly for the year 2000, raises questions about the fate of the territories that still remain in one as non-autonomous or non-self-governed. Seventeen of them remain in that condition at the end of this decade, so it is relevant to review the solutions that have been successfully implemented, particularly in the Pacific Basin, an area where most of the territories lacking self-government are located.
