The idea of conceiving Chile as a gateway, as a form of link between the Pacific and other regions, has been present throughout the history of this country. The perception of Chile's role as a facilitator of relations between the countries of the Basin and Latin America has transcended governments and shows the continuity of the main lines of Chilean foreign policy. However, to make this concept a reality, a solid insertion of Chile with the nations and institutions that comprise it is required. This article analyzes the subject in its contemporary expression in the last two decades.
