This article mentions five elements related to the trade of goods and services that provide the analytical bases to base regional integration agreements with preferential import regimes. These include severe restrictions imposed on the development of production and trade in goods and services. Formulas are suggested to partially overcome these obstacles through regional integration as a strategic weapon, and intraregional trade figures and the quality of exports are analyzed, pointing out geography, the relaxation of the dominant external restriction, the appreciation of real exchange rate and subregional trade agreements as sources of their expansion.
