After reviewing some of the changes experienced in Latin America during the last century, an attempt is made to answer the following question: does Latin America have its own role in the international community? With this end in mind, ten suggestions are proposed to avoid the risk of marginalization in the international arena. These are: The Insertion of globalization in public policies, respecting the basic values of human dignity; consolidate free trade between nations; institutionally consolidate the democratic system; consolidate a cooperation network between the State and civil society; advance in the reforms of the state apparatus, consolidate the transparency of public institutions; educate for development; respect our identities; seek a outlook towards sustainable development and, finally, insert a regionalist sense to a multipolar world.
