Abstract

Despite the consolidation of democracy in Latin America, the fact that it has weakened is related to the economic and social context that has given rise to the new international situation known as globalization. In order to evaluate the impact of this in the societies of the region, this article tries to unravel the meaning of the concept. After offering a brief overview of the democratic present in Latin America, globalization is placed in a historical perspective, it is about defining the different dimensions of the global world and the consequences of the new reality in the national life of the countries of the continent are analyzed.
