Abstract

With the arrival of Ronald Reagan to power, neo-conservative and New Right ideas formed the ideological foundation on which his foreign policy program was designed. Four years after his election and after his overwhelming victory in November 1984, which extends his mandate until 1988, it is worth pointing out the axes of his foreign policy, since they will remain in force during the second republican period. We maintain that Latin America will coexist, probably for the remainder of this decade, with a scenario of renewed American strength, marked by the existence of an ideological vision of the world, ideocentric and messianic, monolithic and static with respect to the Soviet Union, contemptuous of the Nationalist forces and movements in developing countries, marked by mistrust towards the Third World and international organizations controlled by developing countries.
