Abstract

This article compiles and synthesizes much of the naval revolt that took place during the twentieth century, explaining the main features, and identifying common and specific elements. This revolts show a structural tension between officers and troops: the first ones are usually very conservative; but the second ones, increasingly qualified, are seeking a new social situation. Moreover, we note that the Chilean navy was one of the most shacked by this social crisis. To our knowledge, the systematic presentation of the social crisis in the Navy did not exist in Spanish literature about this issue.
