Abstract

The beauty we perceive in music is deeply influenced by interpretative praxis, being this an answer to cultural tastes and preferences. On this basis, we propose an approach to one of the most important clarinet schools, the German School. We will do so in three different parts: we will firstly get an insight into its origins and evolution, highlighting the names of its most distinguished representatives; then, we will get to know the constructive special features of the German clarinet, decisive in the characteristic German sound; and finally, we shall examine some of the interpretative traits which characterize this school.
